Can You Drink on Wegovy (Semaglutide)?

Typically alcohol is not recommended when patients are taking Wegovy® for weight loss.  Alcohol provides added calories and lowers inhibitions which may make it harder to maintain a healthy, calorie-reduced eating pattern.  Additionally, alcohol on its own can have the effect of lowering blood sugar which may be worsened if taken in combination with Wegovy.  It is important you discuss your potential Wegovy and alcohol use with your doctor; your provider may recommend avoiding alcohol completely.  While the relationship between semaglutide and alcohol is not well studied in humans, animal models of alcohol addiction have shown that the active compound in Wegovy (semaglutide) reduced alcohol intake.  Anecdotally, people have reported while taking Wegovy they find their cravings for alcohol decrease.

Wegovy® is a registered trademark of Novo Nordisk A/S.
